Early Years Foundation Stage

It is a legal requirement I follow the Early Years Foundation Stage framework(EYFS) with all children under 5 years old.

I do this by carefully planning activities following children's individual needs and requirements. The EYFS framework sets the standards that all early years providers must meet to ensure that all children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe.

It promotes teaching and learning to ensure children's 'school readiness' and gives children the broad range of knowledge and skills that provide the right foundation for good future progress through school and life.

The EYFS explains how and what your child will be learning to support their healthy development.

There are 7 areas of learning and development. Children should mostly develop the 3 prime areas first.

These are:

• Communication & Language (C&L)

• Physical development (PD)

• EYFS training

• Personal, social and emotional development (PSED)

These prime areas are the most essential for your child's healthy development and future learning. As children grow, the prime areas will help them to develop skills in 4 specific areas.
These are:

• Literacy (LIT)

• Mathematics (MATHS)

• Understanding the world (UTW)

• Expressive arts and design (A&D)

Learning with EYFS

Children in the EYFS learn by playing and exploring. Play is essential for children's development.

It is how children learn and offers opportunities for children to explore, investigate, develop new skills and master and improve existing skills.

It supports every area of development, intellectually, creatively, physically, socially and emotionally.

Through play children can explore develop and represent learning experiences that help them to make sense of the world.

They can practice and build up ideas, concepts and skills and learn how to follow and understand the need for certain rules and boundaries.
